Difference Between Metal Film Resistance and Metal Oxide Film Resistance?
Date:2018-12-10
The materials used to produce the resistors vary in performance. People looking for resistance products often confuse metal film resistance with metal oxide film resistance. Although they differ by only two words in the text, they are quite different. Today we will analyze the difference between the metal film resistance and the metal oxide film resistance.

We know that the metal film resistor is made of special metal or alloy as the resistance material. It has excellent pulse overload characteristics and mechanical properties. It can not only adjust its material composition and film thickness, but also has an operating temperature range of +140~235°C. It can be overloaded in a short time; the temperature coefficient of resistance is ±3×10-4/°C; the chemical stability is good and the temperature coefficient is large.

The metal oxide film is formed by spraying and depositing a metal salt solution onto the hot ceramic skeleton, and its shape is similar to that of the metal film, and has good oxidation resistance. The resistance of the small power resistor does not exceed 100 kΩ. The electrical properties such as temperature coefficient and voltage coefficient are superior to those of carbon film resistors.

In appearance, we can see that the surface of the metal oxide film resistor is mostly gray, the surface is rough, and there are few blue and beige. The metal film resistor is made of a layer of metal on the porcelain tube. One of these two resistors is reducible and one is oxidizing.

Metal oxide film resistors are mainly characterized by high temperature resistance and wide resistance range. The metal film resistors are relatively flexible in manufacturing process, and the resistivity is low. They are often used as precision and high-stability resistors. Due to advances in technology and manufacturing conditions, the performance of these two resistors is also very different.

Through the above points, the metal film resistance and the metal oxide film resistance can be well distinguished. With the advancement of the resistance technology, the resistance production process is also highly developed. These two resistors are also being innovated in the production process. Metal film resistors and metal oxide film resistors are both small, fine, and high performance.
