Shunt Resistor Measures Currents Up To 800A
Date:2019-07-19
Microhm Electronics announced the launch of E-Beam Welded Shunt resistor MMS8518 for industrial and automotive applications. MMS8518 is an electron beam welded resistance element, alloy material, typically MuCu, sandwiched between large copper terminals with optional tin plating.

The low measurement error of this resistor frees up the designer’s error budget and its low ohmic values reduces power loss. The shunt MMS8518 provides the fullest selection of values ranging from 50 to 100µΩ. Precision applications can make use of its 1% tolerance, 100ppm/°C TCR, 1µV/°C thermal EMF and separate ground pins to reduce errors.

MMS8518 features low self-heating which reduces equipment temperature and improves reliability for designers needing to manage temperature rise in compact power electronic assemblies. The robust electron beam welded technology and low thermal EMF of this resistor make it advantageous for HEV battery management, energy metering and welding power supplies.

Microhm Electronics’ MMS8518 can replace similar products from key competitors. This includes the slightly different 8420 format (1mm shorter and 2mm wider) with which 8518 is normally interchangeable; both formats have the same 60mm mounting hole pitch.
